War Diary of 6th Battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers - July 1915

9 July Basingstoke Battalion embarked on HMT Alaunia in two train loads. Strength of Battalion Officers 28 plus 2 attached, WOs 6, Sergeants 45, Lance Sgts 8, Corporals 34, Lance Cpls 42, Privates 787. Total all ranks 952. Attached to Brigade HQ 4 Privates. The regimental transport remained at Basingstoke pending further orders, strength 1 officer, 1 Sergeant, 1 Cpl, 2 L/Cpl and 32 Privates under Lt Loveband, total strength 37. Remaining details 37 Privates.

20 July Alexandria Arrived 4am. Went alongside the coal jetty at 6pm

21 July Alexandria

22 July Alexandria Capt Standforth admitted to ospital in Alexandria. OQMS P Carodan and 5 Privates left behins as Base Detail. Left Alexandria 6pm

23 July At Sea

24 July Mudros Arrived at Mudros Bay, Lemnos at 6pm. Brigade reports that they camped on site evacuated by 11th Division.

26 July Mudros Left 10am, arrived Gulf of Yete, Mitiledge at 6pm

27 July Mitiledge. Brigade notes strength of Battalion as 25 officers and 775 ORs.

29 July Mitiledge 4pm Capt Tittle, 2nd Lt Corbet-Singleton, 2 sgts. 1 L/sgt, 3 cpls 9 L/cpl and 14 Privates embarked on Osmanish for Mudros as 1st reinforcement

31 July Mitiledge HMTs Andania and Novia arrived at 8am. Gen Hill takes over command of trooops. Battalion take part in Divisional night operations to practice attack and assault over new and difficult country.
