31199 Private James Gilgannon, Royal Dublin Fusiliers enlisted on 13th December 1917 at Warrington, stating at the time that he was an 18 year old Labourer of 4, Highfield Place, Prescot. His next of kin was listed as his mother Catherine, of the same address. His attestation was conditional on him being posted to the Royal Dublin Fusiliers. However he was discharged at St Helens on 27th February 1918 when it was found that he suffered from Epilepsy.James did not see overseas service.

His record in 1916 states he was a widower...He also suffered shell wound to neck in 1918 I think serving with 3rd Battalion RDF he ended up been transferred to 5th Royal Irish Reg in 1919. I asked my dad, and he confirmed my grandad had shell wound to neck, and he had a daughter called Agnes. He also lived in Garngad Road in Glasgow, He was not killed but was hospitalised with shrapnel wounds. He was from County Tyrone, and born on 21st September 1889. so would have been 25 years old when war started. He joined up voluntarily in Sauchiehall lane in Glasgow.
