I know that there was a major gas attack that killed hundreds of Irish soldiers on that day at Hulluch, near Loos. It was also the day that news reached the Front of the Easter Rising (had started on 24 April).

R.D.F. from 1916 as a Provost Sgt. all through the Dardnelles and in the advance through Servia with the French Troops into the Bulgaria Territory and was in the retirement from that Front and fought in the rear guard action in which he displayed great Gallantry in keeping his men together, and at the same time having a great number of prisoners to look after.
